The Gambling Metropolis Guide to Sports Betting Systems

If you’re looking to get a bit more serious about your sports betting then you’ll want to consider sports betting systems.

These are a step up from placing a simple single bet every now and then and are the perfect choice for the thinking online sports better.

In this guide, we talk about what exactly a sports betting system is and consider the advantages of using one. We also check out some of the popular systems that you’ll come across in the world of online sportsbooks so you’ll know what they are next time you see them.

This is a good page to bookmark, by the way, as you can come back and refer to it easily whenever you need to check a detail or remind yourself of how a particular betting system works.

OK, so let’s get started by looking at what the term “sports betting system” actually means.

What is a sports betting system?

A sports betting system is, essentially, when you group together a selection of bets. It helps you to win more and also to have more control over your betting. With a system, you can place various bets and you can win money without all your picks being correct.

It’s important to realise that this is different to just making a series of individual bets. The bets are taken as a group, so apart from being able to win money if not all your picks are correct, you can also get a more balanced approach – covering yourself to some extent on some higher risk picks.

What are the advantages of using a sports betting system?

Most obviously, you can win more money with a system. If all your picks are successful, a sports betting system means a big win.

More structure to your betting

Another less obvious advantage is that with a system you’re giving your betting a good solid structure. Instead of just placing a bet here and a bet there and it all being slightly random, you have a proper framework in place.

You’ll do your research

Going with a system also encourages you to do some research before you commit your hard-earned cash to a race or a match. You read up on form—on a team, on a horse… whatever sport it might be that you’re considering, and you go into it all with a little bit more knowledge.

Listen to your head, not your heart

Betting systems also make you a more rational, less emotional better. Instead of just going with whatever feels right, you think it through and keep control. This is an important point when considering the problems that can come with excessive betting.

Popular sports betting systems you’ll find online

Now technically speaking, any sort of rules or practices that you come up with yourself and apply to your betting could be defined as a sports betting system. In fact, one of the best things about sports betting is that it gives you the opportunity to get creative with how you place your bets and what exactly you factor in. However, there are also some very popular sports betting systems that you’ll come across online.

Modern sportsbooks know exactly what their customers like; you’ll tend to see the same systems cropping up across the different bookies. (And that even includes internationally.)

Trixie

A Trixie consists of four bets. It is made up of three doubles and one treble. Remember that with this, and all betting systems, you don’t actually need all your selections to be correct in order to win. In the case of a Trixie, you have to get a minimum of two selections correct to win.

Yankee

The Yankee is from horse racing and is a bet on four horses in different races (or more if you like) to either win or be placed. This is one that you’ll come across a lot and it actually consists of 11 bets. They are made up of 6 doubles, 4 triples and a quadruple accumulator. It’s like the Trixie in that to get any money at least two of your selections need to be correct.

Lucky 15

As its name suggests, this one consists of 15 bets. It involves 4 selections—4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and a quadruple accumulator. Just one correct selection will offer you a return with this one, and sometimes bookies offer bonuses too (hence the “lucky” part).

Super Yankee aka Canadian

Strangely enough, this betting system is typically called a Canadian by Americans and a Super Yankee in Europe. (Make of that what you will!) It’s 5 selections this time and it’s 26 separate bets. It’s broken down like this: 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 quadruples and a fivefold accumulator. If you get a minimum of two selections correct then you’ll get some money back.

Lucky 31

As with Lucky 15, the clue is in the name with this system… it’s 31 bets. You make 5 selections that are made up of 5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 quadruples and, last but not least, a fivefold accumulator. Just one selection being correct gives you some money back here.

Heinz

A quirky name for a great betting system (…don’t tell us sports betting isn’t creative!) This one is made up of 57 bets, and if you recall that Heinz is famous for their “57 varieties” – think back to the label on that ketchup bottle—then you’ll understand the name.

The bets are made up of six selections. It’s 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 quadruples, 6 five-folds and finally a six-fold accumulator. To get money back on this one you’ll need at least two selections to be correct.

Goliath

This final one is big! It’s actually a grand total of 247 bets. The bets are made up of eight selections. You have 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 quadruples, 56 five-folds, 28 six-folds, 8 seven-folds and an eight-fold accumulator. To get some money back you’ll need at least two winning selections.

So there you have our guide to sports betting systems. They might seem a little daunting at first, but remember that you don’t have to start with a Goliath! Why not try one of the simpler types first and just gradually get used to the process. Then, when you’re a little more confident you can work up to the bigger betting systems if you fancy it.

Good luck with all your future sports betting from our experts here at Gambling Metropolis. (And don’t forget that in our guide section of the website, we’ve got loads more useful articles like this one to make your gambling more enjoyable and to help you win more.)
